    Maker Wedgwood
    Origin England
Period Mid to Late 20th Century
    Material Hand-blown glass
Dimensions Height: approx. 7 cm | Width: approx. 8 cm

    Description

This Wedgwood glass paperweight captures everything collectors admire about mid to late 20th-century British art glass. While compact in form, the piece delivers strong visual impact through colour, movement, and clarity.

The design features a distinctive swirling pattern often described as a dancing or marble-effect swirl. Bands of white, deep blue, warm orange, and reddish-brown flow through the clear glass body, creating a sense of motion when viewed from different angles. As a result, the paperweight feels dynamic rather than static, even when resting in place.

Because the piece was hand-blown, subtle variations appear within the glass. These natural differences add character and confirm its studio-made origins. Moreover, art glass paperweights from this period reflect a broader mid-century modern influence, where bold colour and abstract form took precedence over rigid symmetry.

Examples like this often carry a “WEDGWOOD ENGLAND” stamp to the base, reinforcing authenticity and place of manufacture. Although primarily decorative today, the weight and balance still allow it to function perfectly as a traditional desk paperweight.

Whether displayed individually or grouped with other vintage
    glass paperweights,
this example offers colour, craftsmanship, and period appeal.

For broader historical context on Wedgwood’s decorative output beyond ceramics, the
    V&A Wedgwood collection
provides useful insight into the brand’s wider design legacy.

    Condition

In very good overall vintage condition. As expected with many vintage glass paperweights, there are minor signs of age, including surface scratches and small imperfections, particularly on and around the base. However, there are no chips or cracks on this one, and the piece displays extremely well.

    Why Collect Wedgwood Glass Paperweights

Wedgwood glass paperweights appeal because they bridge studio art glass and accessible design. While Wedgwood remains best known for ceramics, its glass production introduced bold colour and contemporary style into British interiors.

Consequently, a Wedgwood glass paperweight like this suits both dedicated paperweight collectors and those seeking a single statement object for a desk, shelf, or cabinet.

    Before You Order

Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. Vintage glass naturally shows minor surface wear from age and use. If you require additional images or clarification, feel free to ask before purchasing.
