      Description

This Selkirk Glass coronet paperweight was created to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana on 29 July 1981.
The design centres on a clear glass coronet formed with controlled bubbles, which sit sharply against a deep blue background.

At the base, a sandy, aventurine-style effect adds warmth and depth.
As a result, the piece displays strongly under light and rewards close inspection.

The base carries the etched wording “Selkirk Glass Scotland Coronet” along with the wedding date.
In addition, this example includes Peter Holmes’ exclusive initials cane and a separate date cane, both clearly visible.

Because Selkirk Glass closed in 2006, no further examples were produced.
Therefore, these limited editions now sit firmly within the collectable Scottish paperweight market.

      Condition

The paperweight is in very good vintage condition.

There are no chips or cracks.
However, as expected with most vintage glass paperweights, light scratches and scuffing may be present, particularly around the base.

We consider these signs of age to be history enhancers rather than detractions, and they remain consistent with careful display use.

Collectability and History Of The Selkirk Glass Coronet Paperweight

Selkirk Glass gained a strong reputation for quality Scottish art glass during the late 20th century.
Peter Holmes, in particular, became known for precise workmanship, controlled bubble techniques, and distinctive cane signatures.

Royal commemorative paperweights appeal to both glass collectors and those interested in British royal history.
As a result, limited edition examples such as this coronet design continue to attract long-term interest.

      Summary

This Selkirk Glass coronet paperweight is a well-documented limited edition commemorating the 1981 Royal Wedding.
Because of its clear attribution, numbered edition, and strong visual presence, it makes a thoughtful addition to a paperweight or royal memorabilia collection.
