These Scandinavian snuff boxes date to the early 1800s and the early part of the 20th century, made with traditional handcraft techniques using birch bark and pine. Both boxes were made with simple yet skilled construction, lightweight and durable containers for storing snuff. They remain excellent examples of folk art design from the region.

Distinctive Features

The smaller box measures 7cm wide, standing 6cm tall to the top of its leather tug handle and 4cm from base to rim. The addition of the handle shows the practical, everyday purpose of the piece. The larger box is 10cm in length and 3cm high, with a plain yet tactile surface. Together, these Antique Scandinavian snuff boxes highlight the variety of forms and functions used by early 19th-century makers.

Condition and Authenticity

Both boxes are in very good antique condition, especially considering their age. One is from the eraly 1800s and the other is most likely early 20th century. As with all antiques, expect some natural wear and patina from use. This may include light surface marks, variations in colour, or minor irregularities. These details are not flaws but part of their character and authenticity.
